Solar panels are great for your home, but unfortunately they provide a great home for birds such as pigeons. We find nests, eggs, dead birds and of course loads of bird droppings under the solar panels and in the gutters.
To solve the problem, first we clean around the solar panels and underneath as good as is possible. We use our ute mounted gutter vacuuming, then a blower to clear as much out as we can.
Then we install a wire mesh around the solar panels so that the birds can’t get back under.
Normally, that is enough. The birds don’t feel safe out in the open and they move on to find another home. In extreme cases however, we may have to resort to bird spikes or a gel that sticks to their feet.
